For our Armed Forces Day celebration here in Berlin last week, Ben needed 30 centerpieces made at the last minute! His request was that they could be used again and only need flowers added to them for future events. It’s not incredibly easy and convenient to gather crafting supplies here, but I was able to manage these by way of Ikea, Amazon.de, and a local flower stand! I initially thought they looked like the kids made them, but after seeing them at the event I realized they were actually quite charming! There were many kind remarks about them, and I was glad Ben had urged me to take a few photos beforehand in case I wanted to share them later.
They are pretty self-explanatory, so I won’t do a tutorial here! The only note I have on them is that I secured the sparkler skewers to the flag sticks with a piece of tape right where the flowers cover them. They looked like cute fireworks below the flag, and the kids all thought that was so cool!
- Milk bottle jars from Ikea- $0.99 a piece
- Grossgrain ribbon- I bought mine here in Berlin, but I’m linking to this ADORABLE inexpensive and festive ribbon!
- Handheld American Flags
- Sparkle Skewers- I happened upon some here in a store next to the flower stand for über cheap, but I was initially planning on making my own via this tutorial on marthastewart.com.
- Fresh flowers- I used three Gerbera Daisies in each jar, because both the colors and price were right! You could do all sorts of flowers in them.
*Tip- One drop of Young Living Tea Tree Oil in the water of each jar to keep flowers fresher for longer. I did this and I was happy to see none of the flowers wilted in the sweltering heat we experienced the day of the outdoor event!
