Having four kids ages six and under, we are truly in parenting mode 24/7. We are absolutely loving this stage of our life, and we know it’s short-lived. Rather than escape it, we’ve surrendered to embracing it. It’s not everyone’s style, and that’s okay! For us, right now, holidays and celebrations are family affairs. We love being with our kids and celebrating with other families who are in the same mode. We find it makes it easier to relax and have a good time. That all being said, we rung in 2017 early (at 8:00 PM) in the company of other young families. It was a blast! We will totally do it again (and again) while we have little ones at home.
Our party kicked off at 6:00 with heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks. We programmed a New Year countdown on our iPad to strike midnight at 8:00. Parents socialized and kids ran around like the wild animals they are. Around 7:00, we let the kids use sparklers outside (supervised by parents). Back inside, we had a “Build Your Own (Marshmallow) Snowman” bar that was a huge hit with the kids! A few minutes before “midnight” struck, we set up a chocolate milk and cookies toast for kids and poured champagne for adults. After Auld Lang Syne, everyone socialized a little longer before saying goodnight. Not only did everyone have a good time, but we had the aftermath cleaned up and our kiddos bathed and ready for bed by 9:30! That’s my kind of New Year’s Eve!
I loved that this party was easy and inexpensive to put together, and everyone had a great time celebrating together. We woke up on January 1st feeling happy and contented. I hope you did, too!
